Message from Tarcisio CELESTINO, ITA President

Dear ITA Colleagues:

The organisation of the WTC 2017 in Bergen is in full swing.

As usual many meetings are already planned during the WTC, beginning with an ExCO meeting on Saturday morning and the meeting between WGs Animateurs, Committees’ Chairs and ExCo members on Saturday afternoon, WGs meetings on Sunday and Monday afternoon, Committees Steering board, meeting with Prime Sponsors, special sessions organized by ITACUS, ITACOSUF and ITAtech. In addition, Nordic as well as Latin American ITA Member Nations will meet to exchange their latest news and work on their cooperation. All these meetings will make the WTC and ITA General Assembly a very active week to the benefit of the tunnelling industry worldwide. - read more in the articles hereafter.

A Royal Opening

It is with great honor and pride, we can announce that His Royal Highness Crown Prince of Norway will open the World Tunneling Congress 2017 Monday the 12th of June.

 

The program for WTC 2017 is falling into place

WTC training course

The WTC 2017, the ITA-CET Committee and the ITACET Foundation have the pleasure of inviting you to the ITACET training course that has become a traditional part of the annual World Tunnel Congress. The 2017 WTC training course will focus on "Excavation and Support in Soft Ground Conditions" and will take place on the Friday and Saturday before the WTC, on the 9th-10th June. 

 

ITAtech - The information disseminator of new technologies in tunnelling

ITAtech is one of four committees of the ITA organization.  The mission is to promote new or state-of-the-art technologies and methods for the sustainable development of underground space. This is done through development and publication of guidelines on technology, processes or design best practices. The panel of Judges for the ITA Awards 2017 has been released

As it is time to present entries for the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2017, the panel of Judges has been released. Chaired by ITA President, Prof. Tarcisio Celestino, Academics, Consulting Engineers, Contractors from all over the world constitute this year panel of 17 judges. As for the past years we expect over 100 entries in the different categories. YMG Regional Event

On Thursday and Friday the 11th and 12th of May we had a very successful first ever Regional Event to Switzerland. We had 45 participants from more than 8 different member nations participating on a two-day seminar that included visits to the historic Gonzen iron mine, Schollberg Underground Quarry and the Hagerbach Test Gallery.

WG 14 has released its newsletter

WG-14 is to promote mechanised tunnelling and to inform about the current state of development in this flexible technology. It shall support public and private clients, planners and contractors with general and technical information during the preparation for tunnelling projects.
Further, it is the intent of WG-14 to give information about technical regulations and standards which might affect TBM projects. Being an international organization, it is the intent to develop a document collection...Read more

TAN advocates govt, private sector investment in underground infrastructures

The Tunneling Association of Nigeria, TAN, has called for government and private sector investment in underground infrastructure to bridge the country’s infrastructural gaps.   National Chairman, TAN, Mr. Abidemi Agwor, who described tunneling as the act of creating useful and effective space below ground level told Vanguard that the current  economic challenges in the country serve as an opportunity to invest in tunnel technology as developing a tunnel or an underground space...Read more
 

Seminar in Yangon

Special Seminar on “Effective Use of Tunneling and Underground Space for Sustainable Development”. The event was held on 25th March 2017 in Yangon, Myanmar. Tunnelling Asia, Mumbai

Beginning of February took place an ITA Executive Council meeting in Mumbai, India. This meeting has been preceded by a 2-day workshop as well as a 2 day conference. Both events were very well attended, with many more participants than expected and the necessity to add chairs in the conference hall. Several Executive Council members gave lectures in both workshops and conference as well as representatives of some of ITA Prime Sponsors (Normet, BASF, Bekaert Macaferri Underground Solutions, Sika)....Read more
