Istanbul: Basaksehir Kayasehir metro line will be opening end of the year

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoglu said, “We are planning to put our Basaksehir-Cam and Sakura City Hospital-Kayasehir metro line project into service of our people at the end of this year.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu, who examined the construction of the Basaksehir-Kayasehir metro line, told reporters that they implemented huge transportation projects one by one to make Istanbul one of the most developed cities in Europe and the world.

Karaismailoglu stated that they have implemented very important projects for the development of urban rail public transport infrastructure in order to make urban life in Istanbul more comfortable every day and that they have equipped the city with modern rail system networks from start to finish.

Karaismailoglu noted that the length of the Marmaray and suburban line and Levent-Hisarustu metro, which they previously offered to the service of Istanbul residents, was 80 kilometers, and that they are currently continuing the construction of the 5 metro lines and 91 kilometers of railway in the city.

Karaismailoglu stated that these lines are Gayrettepe-Kagithane-Istanbul Airport metro, Halkali-Istanbul Airport subway, Tavsantepe-Sabiha Gokcen Airport subway, Bakirkoy (IDO) -Kirazli metro, Basaksehir-Cam and Sakura Hospital-Kayasehir metro.

Stating that Istanbul’s current rail system network is 251 kilometers, Karaismailoglu said, “When our ongoing projects are completed, this figure will increase to 342 kilometers. Our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will have brought 50% of these 342 kilometers to Istanbul. This table alone is the best indicator of who actually works for Istanbul.”

“Our priority is our citizens”

Adil Karaismailoglu emphasized that the Basaksehir-Kayasehir metro line is of particular importance in terms of creating an alternative transportation route to Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital.

He stated that the roads of the hospital were made by the Ministry so that the citizens would not be victims, and that the situation was the same in the metro line, and that they blocked the “so-called politics” and claimed the construction of this line.

Karaismailoglu stated that the metro line will have Metrokent, Onurkent, City Hospital, Mass Housing and Kayasehir stations, and said:

“Unfortunately, when we took over this line on May 22, 2020, only 5% of the 6.2-kilometer-long line was completed. Thanks to the works we speeded up immediately, we covered a great distance in a very short time. By adding the second TBM machine to the works last October, we increased the physical realization rate to 36% as of today. We have completed 80% of the 3 thousand 298 meters long TBM tunnel constructions. Within the scope of the project, we will manufacture 43 thousand 729 square meters of closed area and 9 thousand 923 meters of rail. Approximately 2 thousand 500 people are employed within the scope of our project. “

“It will be finished in 18 months”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoglu, stating that they plan to put the Basaksehir-Cam and Sakura City Hospital-Kayasehir metro line project into the service of the public at the end of this year, said, “We aimed to complete 95% of it in 18 months from the day we took over.”

Stating that this metro line and the Halkali-Istanbul Airport metro, which is under construction by the Ministry, will be integrated, Karaismailoglu completed his words as follows:

“With the completion of our Bakirkoy-Kirazli metro line project, uninterrupted transportation will be provided from Bakirkoy coast to Cam and Sakura City Hospital. As can be seen, every project we do is planned in a way to meet a great need in Istanbul and is carried out in the most qualified way. As we take our steps in a planned way, we can always appear in front of our people in a clear way, by listening to the needs of our people, thinking about them.”

Karaismailoglu had a souvenir photo taken with the project staff after his statements.
