Webinar on "Planning for sustainable underground space"

23 April 2021

The Webinar 5 of the series Hagerbach NXT 50  took place on April 21.In this session, we will find out how ITACUS, the ITA Underground Space committee, is working on an underground urban future.

The ITACUS co-chairs Antonia Cornaro and Han Admiraal are co-hosting this webinar and joined by ITACUS Steering board members. Three professionals hold a thought-provoking conversation on the essence of planning underground spaces. Is it about geology ? Is it about urban planning ?  Or Is it about something different altogether ?

By watching the recording below, you can hear from Dr Marilu Melo, a human geographer at the University of New South Wales, Australia, Dr Loretta von der Tann, geo-engineer and currently assigned to NGI (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute), and from Shana Debrock, policy advisor working for the Department of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Flanders Government, Belgium. In addition, you can hear from the ITACUS lead on urban sustainability, Dr Chrysothemis Paraskevopoulou, a lecturer at the University of Leeds UK on how underground spaces can contribute to sustainable development and help meet the global goals set by the United Nations. The ITACUS co-leads for the Young Professional's Think Deep Program (YPTDP) Petr Salak (Dr Sauer & Partners, Israel), and Rosanne Verloop (Amberg Engineering, Switzerland), will give you a unique insight into the program in which ITACUS collaborates with ISOCARP, the International Society of City and Regional Planners. On the form, the audience was invited to participate via polling and Q&A.
