Make a World of Difference

The ITA president and ITACUS chair were invited by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to attend the Climate Summit 2014 at the UN in NewYork. During the opening and closing sessions of the summit the video 'Make a world of difference' was shown. It can be viewed here.

At the historic meeting many governments and organisations pledged their alliance to combatting climate change. It became clear that investors are increasingly investing in green projects geared towards a low carbon economy.

The announcement of a Global Geothermal Alliance in the field of Energy, made clear that ITA's efforts to develop underground space in a planned manner needs to continue.

Other fields that ITA can remain focussed on are Transportation and Cities. The reduction of carbon emissions and transitioning to a low carbon economy are vital and can be delivered through these fields. Tunnelling and Underground Space can play an important role in delivering solutions in these areas.

The ITA president and ITACUS chair met the ICLEI president David Cadman and congratulated the ITACUS Global Partner with the launch of their seven initiatives, notably the Compact of Mayors. They also had a short meeting with Margareta Wahlström, the UN Secretary General Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction.

ITACUS in collaboration with the ITA Executive Council will look at how ITA can contribute to make a difference and advocate for an urban underground future as one way to make a world of difference.
