During the Expo Tunnel, the Italian Tunnelling Society (SIG) organized a 2 half day conference on “Challenging and demanding tunnelling projects: design, construction and managing". 

A first session has been dedicated to Urban Tunnels and TBM excavation with very interesting presentations on Grand Paris, Naples Metro, Warsaw. Han Admiraal, iatcus chair presented "Think deep for an urban underground future" and other very passionate presentations. 

The second session was devoted to long and deep tunnels with a presentation of Lyon-Turin by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Government for Lyon-Turin, a presentaion of The Gothard tunnel as well as tunnels for the line Milan-Genoa and two presentations on the use of BIM in Tunnelling.

The conclusion was given by Prof Sebastiano Pelizza, former ITA President, who received an award from the SIG President, Andrea Pigorini.
