SICAT: the place to be last September

The Symposium on Innovation and Challenges in Asian Tunnelling (SICAT) was held on 5th & 6th September 2019 at the Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore. Over 350 tunnelling professionals attended and benefited from the 2-days event. It is the third run of the SICAT series this time organised with industry partners from China, Japan and South Korea. The symposium aimed to share valuable experiences gained from recent underground infrastructure projects across our four countries on various topics including technology developments, large diameter TBMs, challenges and lesson learnt from major tunnelling projects, developments in tunnelling, risk management, special innovations feature in tunnelling TBM, instrumentation, settlement analysis and tunnel maintenance works etc. Sixteen eminent speakers from China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore shared their experiences from the region and updated on the latest techniques and innovations and how these can be used to overcome our challenges. Prof Jenny Yan, ITA President, Mr Chua Chong Kheng, Deputy Chief Executive, Land transport Authority, Singapore and Ms Woo Lai Lynn, Chief Engineer, Public Utility Board, Singapore delivered key note presentations. At sixteen table-top exhibition booths specialist suppliers and manufacturers showcased their products and shared their unique features during the symposium.
