Geneva researchers are launching a futuristic idea: why go to Mars when the tunnel is so close?

What if global warming makes our earth uninhabitable? Would we then have to emigrate to other planets? Researchers in Geneva say no; the solution is underground. The first projects in the USA, China - and in Switzerland - are providing hope.

The universe with its infinite widths invites you to dream. For billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk it is clear: Our future lies on Mars. Many researchers share his opinion that sooner or later mankind will be forced to leave its ever hotter planet and start again on another one.

But does the solution really lie in looking up? Antonia Cornaro thinks it's pure science fiction. All the planets in our solar system are considered uninhabitable. ...and those that might be friendly to humans are unattainable.
