ITACUS's Han Admiraal presenting at STUVA 2017

28 November 2017

On Wednesday 6 December 2017 Han Admiraal will be presenting a paper during the STUVA Tagung 2017 in Stuttgart. The paper, written together with Antonia Cornaro, is titled "The Impact of Urban Planning on the Design and Operation of Stations and Interchange Hubs".

The paper and presentation will showcase how the design of underground stations has changed over the years. Not because the concepts have changed, more because the integration of the underground space in urban planning automatically leads to an integrated and open design. This will be demonstrated by looking at projects like San Francisco's Transbay Transit Centre in the USA, and Dominique Perrault's Lightwalk Transit hub design in Seoul, South Korea.

An urban underground future requires an approach to both planning and design whereby the surface and subsurface are welded together. When this happens the impact can result in stunning solutions as both projects mentioned will show. For more information visit the STUVA Tagung 2017 website which can be found here.
