ITACUS co-chairs at international tunnelling and underground space forum in Beijing

01 April 2019

The ITACUS co-chairs met up with their tutor Prof. Dr. Chungsik Yoo and ITA VP Prof. Jinxiu (Jenny) Yan, as well as many other distinguished tunnelling and underground space professionals from China and other parts of the world for the international workshop on large diameter tunnels and underground spaces, held 25-26 March 2019 in Beijing. ITACUS tutor Chungsik Yoo gave an opening speech. ITACUS co-chairs Han Admiraal and Antonia Cornaro presented on “future proofing of infrastructure“ and “sustainability of underground space”.  Thank you to our hosts for an enlightening conference and quick visit to China which included a site visit to the world's deepest and largest underground high-speed rail station, situated underneath the Great Wall of China – part of the new 174km Beijing- Zhangjiakou high-speed railway line for the Winter Olympics 2022. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and become a vital link between these two host cities, allowing trains to travel at 350 kilometres per hour.
