ITACUS was thrilled to have been invited as keynote speaker in the session on “planning for people and places” at the National Planning Conference of Royal Town Planning Institute and Planning Portal, held from 17-18 November 2022 in Birmingham. Our co-chair Antonia Cornaro presented on behalf of ITACUS - the ITA Committee on Underground Space.
In her talk she showed examples of human centered design and multi-functional infrastructure and how underground spaces can contribute to sustainable city development.
In the ensuing panel debate the discussion was about place making, planning reform, levelling up, engaging communities, and achieving truly sustainable developments considering the potentials of underground spaces in local planning such as underground parking and logistics as well as innovative uses like data centers and underground green farming.
Thanks to the Royal Town Planning Institute and Planning Portal for the invitation to speak at the conference.
