WG-14 is to promote mechanised tunnelling and to inform about the current state of development in this flexible technology. It shall support public and private clients, planners and contractors with general and technical information during the preparation for tunnelling projects. Further, it is the intent of WG-14 to give information about technical regulations and standards which might affect TBM projects. Being an international organization, it is the intent to develop a document collection covering the world tunnel market. It is anticipated to grow this compilation and to update it as the Working Group becomes aware of changes in regulation.

On Thursday and Friday the 11th and 12th of May we had a very successful first ever Regional Event to Switzerland. We had 45 participants from more than 8 different member nations participating on a two-day seminar that included visits to the historic Gonzen iron mine, Schollberg Underground Quarry and the Hagerbach Test Gallery. All the participants expressed great appreciation for a very well-arranged visit with a highly technical content and good opportunities to get to know tunneling colleagues from other countries. Besides the official programme – our hosts from Hagerbach had prepared a surprise for us; a live demonstration of an explosion, so we can trul say: We had a blast!

ITAtech is one of four committees of the ITA organization. The mission is to promote new or state-of-the-art technologies and methods for the sustainable development of underground space. This is done through development and publication of guidelines on technology, processes or design best practices. The ITAtech activities include all processes related to underground construction such as Investigation, Excavation, Support, Lining and Waterproofing, Monitoring, and Design. The work is organized as activity groups (AG) and sub activity groups in some cases. Since the conception of ITAtech in 2012, we have published 8 guidelines in total, and quite few new ones are currently in process, e.g. PFRCS volume 2, Quality in Drill & Blast, Bolts & Arches, and Investigation, to mention a few. Our publications can be found at the ITA website. https://www.ita-aites.org/en/wg-committees/committees/itatech/goals-membership To become an active member of ITAtech activity groups you have to be member of ITA through a Corporate…

D. from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and during his period as a Professor of Soil and Rock Mechanics at the same university, he has received several awards. Professor Håkan P. Stille will talk about how the right approach for risk assessments and quality assurance in rock engineering and tunnelling is based on experiences from tunnel projects and supported by theories of uncertainties. The Selected Paper is written by Professor Nuh Bilgin The selected paper is based on a combination of the relevance, current interest of the paper and the score after a thorough review of the submitted papers by…
