Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) tunnel boring machines require the use of soil conditioners which must be adapted to the geology of the surrounding environment to ensure the safe advance and maximum efficiency of the tunnel boring machine (TBM). To improve the performance and control of the soil through the screw conveyor under the toughest conditions, Master Builders Solutions has developed a new biodegradable series of high-performance foaming agents:

MasterRoc SLF 325 is a new cost-effective foaming agent for TBM applications specifically designed for silty to sandy soils in environments above 11°C. The improved foam properties provide better control of the ground pressure, reducing the risk of additional ground settlement at the surface and over excavation. This makes it easier for the TBM operator to control the rheology of the soil without compromising construction performance.

MasterRoc SLF 419 performs well in warm environments but has been specifically designed for low temperatures. It ensures chemical homogeneity and stability in frozen soils by creating a highly stable foam to hold the face pressure and maintain the rheology of the excavated ground for longer than conventional foaming agents.

MasterRoc SLF 543 is an eco-friendly high-performance polymer reinforced foaming agent that improves the performance and control of silt to sandy soils with clay and clogging issues. The specially selected anti-clogging polymer reduces the clogging and adhesion potential of clay-containing soils.

All new foams can be used with the standard foam generators installed on EPB machines. They can be injected at the cutterhead, into the working chamber or in the screw conveyor and enable continuous operation in a wide range of temperatures.
