The following excerpt shows some major tunnelling projects which were running in Germany during 2013:

The long-distance rail tunnels largely relate to works in conjunction with the Stuttgart 21 rail hub as well as the new-line and upgrading programme for Deutsche Bahn AG‘s high-speed routes. For the tunnelling projects currently being implemented (a total of 110 km), almost

·         42 km is accounted for by the major project “Stuttgart 21 rail hub” and some

·         28 km by the new/upgraded Stuttgart–Ulm rail route. Furthermore, some

·         36 km of tunnel is being constructed on the new Ebensfeld–Erfurt line.

These main-line rail tunnel projects predominantly employ underground („trenchless“) tunnelling –78 % using the

shotcreting method and 22 % mechanised driving.

As an international tunnelling event the next biannual STUVA Conference in Germany will take place from 1 until 3 December 2015 at the Westfalenhallen Dortmund. Simultaneous translation from English to German and vice versa is provided.
